Choosing The Right Table and Chair for Your Workstation in 2021

Workstation Storage Unit

2020 has been a year that has changed the way the world works. Children were forced to study online, while many companies voluntarily embraced the Work From Home culture. Many professionals who could work remotely have now been directed to work from home at least for the foreseeable future.

However, there are a few firms that either require you to come to an office or have bucked the trend. Regardless of your location of work, as you are going to be seated for a long time, you will need a comfortable, ergonomic, practical, and budget-friendly workstation desk, chair, and storage unit to work without any hassles.

Aspects to consider when buying a workstation Table+Chair+ Storage Unit

TABLE

  • Office Decor- If you are checking out additional/new desks for your office, do consult your interior designer to know which colour combination to choose. The new furniture should blend in with the surroundings, especially if you have existing furniture with a set arrangement.

  • Location- The location of your workstation should be such that you get ample sunlight during the day and have equal light balance at night- the table shouldn’t be put in a place where there is a constant glare of sunlight or artificial light.

  • Size – Buying a workstation table is a one-time investment. Before placing the order, you need to ensure it is within the dimensions at the place you intend to put it- if it is too large, the room would look small, if it is too small, you may experience discomfort while working.

  • Technical requirements- You also got to take into consideration the hardware besides the PC which you will use. You may need to accommodate computer peripherals like printers, scanners, extra monitors, etc. Also, you will be needing an extension cord to plug them in. For this, you got to factor in the space needed between the wall and table and ensure the table has a provision to pass down the wires.

  • Budget- This may sound obvious, but there are many people out there who buy furniture without considering their budget. Too less and you might get a low-quality desk, too high and you may wrongly choose a desk that isn’t what you expected.

CHAIR

  • Lumbar (back) support- You are going to sit for long hours in the chair. It is therefore necessary to ensure your back is adequately rested. The chair should have adjustable support for the lower back. This is crucial to ensure you don’t suffer from back pain.

  • Adjustability -  With adjustable backrests, you can move forward or backward based on the task at hand. The chair also should have a locking mechanism so that you don’t fall backward if you lean back too much.

  • Wheelbase-  Most office chairs have a wheelbase. This lets you move within the space while ensuring you do not have to get up for retrieving anything. With many offices (and homes) carpeted, you need to ensure if your chair’s wheels can move on a carpet base.

  • Swivel base-  You should be able to swivel in your chair at all times. Generally, most office chairs online come with a swivel base. If you are using a chair without a swivel, you risk getting arm fatigue by reaching various objects while seated.

  • Fabric- Your office chair needs to have adequate cushioning as you are to sit in it for long periods. The fabric should match this requirement and also correspond with the colour palette of the desk or office.

STORAGE UNIT

  • Storage Function- Based on your current and future requirements, you need to estimate how much storage you need to have for your workstation. This is true especially in the case when your existing office is too cluttered with paper and files or if you will need more storage in the future(especially if you are working from home). If you need to store a mix of important files/papers and electronic gadgets, you can choose the right workstation desk with lockable drawers. (especially if you need workstation desks for your office)

  • Accessibility- The whole purpose of having a workstation storage unit is that things you need should be easily accessible at all times. This includes stationery, pen drives, external hard disks, files, etc. You must be able to access your stuff while you are seated while also ensuring the storage unit (read. Drawers) opens when needed. If your drawers around the office/home are currently full, you should take into consideration the items that will be transferred to the workstation table drawer.

Winding-up

From a novelty, work from home has now become a reality. Some companies are encouraging it, others have taken the middle ground while some still like to have their people work in an office. Whatever be the reason, a workstation is an asset that needs careful consideration. Do take an informed decision or ask for professional help if things seem to be complicated.
